About
The Global University Leaders Council Hamburg (formerly Hamburg Transnational University Leaders Council) is an initiative of the German Rectors’ Conference, the Körber-Stiftung and Universität Hamburg. It is the aim of the Council to initiate a dialogue among university leaders about the current key challenges that national higher education systems around the globe are confronted with.
The process of globalisation has led to a situation in which higher education systems worldwide are facing a number of similar challenges. These range from threats to university autonomy and academic freedom to conflicting theories of the university and education, and from questions of access to higher education to the financing of university teaching and research.
The co-organisers understand the Global University Leaders Council Hamburg as a forum for discussions on the core mission of the university in a globalised higher education landscape.
